Dressing room & walk-in closet

A dressing room is a boutique for one client. We design walk-in closets in which every coat, every shoe and every watch has its own illuminated place, and in which dressing becomes a ritual.

We begin with an inventory: how much hanging, how much folded, which shoes, bags, jewellery. From that follows a floor plan with an island in the middle, cabinets up to the ceiling and a mirror wall that doubles the room. Daylight is welcome, provided it is UV-filtered; artificial light is indispensable: LED strips in every cabinet, even light at the mirror and mood light for the evening.

The cabinets are solid: oak, walnut or lacquered wood, with leather inlays in the drawers, glass display cases for watches and bags and brass rails. A bench or armchair, a rug and an artwork make the dressing room a room instead of a cupboard.

In a master suite the dressing room forms the link between bedroom and bathroom; in an existing house we free up a small bedroom or attic for it. Hidden doors and a safe are among the possibilities.
